The Hope & Healing Town Hall: How Bronx Schools Can Address Childhood Trauma

August 7, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Hey Bronx students and parents! Learn about childhood trauma, its impact on learning, what schools can do to help, and YOUR rights.

Please join New York State Assembly Member Latoya Joyner and Bronx Legal Services at The Bronx Museum of the Arts on Wednesday, August 7th at 11AM for lunch and an important conversation about bringing healing approaches to our public schools.

Trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) affect countless children in our communities. Even after the initial impact, ACEs can impact our children’s day-to-day experiences, interfere with their education, and affect them for the rest of their lives. Our schools are uniquely situated to address ACEs, but most schools lack trauma-informed approaches for working with children who have experienced ACEs. Our schools are missing an opportunity to provide a learning environment that promotes healing and long-term success. Hear from psychologists, principals, parents, and students about trauma-informed approaches that work and come prepared to share your questions and ideas.

Hosted by Assembly Member Latoya Joyner and Bronx Legal Services , in collaboration with New Settlement Apartments’ Parent Action Committee, VNSNY FRIENDS, New York Psychotherapy and Counseling Center, & the Bronx Borough-Based Council of the Coordinated Children’s Services Initiative (CCSI).

Lunch will be served. Legal advocates will be available to discuss education and immigration rights.
